The Abbot's Porch: One of England's Finest Tudor Monastic Gatehouses

The Abbot's Porch is a striking three-storey entrance to the former Abbot's Hall, built by Abbot Thomas Sam around 1497 to 1509. Around its magnificent two-storey oriel window are carved panels enclosing the shields of arms and rebuses of Abbot Sam and other benefactors.

Following the Dissolution of the monastery it survived as part of the farm buildings. In the 1990s the present owners restored the structure and replaced the roof, with further repairs to the glazed windows completed in 2023.
